Christian Sears, преподаватель английского языка

University of Utah

Здравствуйте—my name is Christian. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. I attended the University of Utah, where I studied English literature and Russian language. I can’t explain why I decided to take my first Russian class, but after I learned the Cyrillic alphabet, I knew I wanted to become fluent. After living in St. Petersburg, while studying Russian, I realized that my greatest desire upon graduation was to move to Russia. I am so grateful for the opportunity the American Home has given me to work in Vladimir. Not only will I have a chance to continue learning Russian, but I will be able to teach and share my language with students. Teaching is the most rewarding work I have experienced. I am so excited to meet my students and fellow staff!

Sam Breazeale, преподаватель английского языка

University of South Carolina

Здравствуйте! I grew up in Columbia, South Carolina, and then moved to Greenville, South Carolina, where I studied classical piano in a boarding school. I then moved back to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina, where I graduated with a major in Public Health and a minor in Russian. During the spring of 2017, I studied Russian for a semester at СПБГЭУ in St. Petersburg. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, and cooking. I can’t wait to return to Russia and meet my students!

Alexandros Nickoloff, преподаватель английского языка

University of Maryland

My name is Alex (or Саша), and I’m from Maryland, right next to Washington D.C.

I graduated from the University of Maryland last spring with a double major in Linguistics and Russian language.  I’ve been interested in foreign languages for a long time, and love trying to learn new ones so I can communicate with people from many countries.  Last fall in 2017, I studied Russian language in Vladimir.  While I was there, I got to see many different cities and sights (like Suzdal, Murom, Volgograd, and others).

When I have free time, I like to do things outside, like walking, hiking, or any kind of exercise or sport.  I also enjoy reading up and studying different languages, by either watching videos or reading.

Sarah Nash, преподаватель английского языка

Vanderbilt University

Hi! My name is Sarah Nash. I grew up in a small town in South Carolina called Anderson, though I’ve spent the last four years of my life studying English, French, and Russian at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. When I wasn’t switching between languages to talk to my friends at college, I chose to study abroad in St. Petersburg and also studied for a month in Vladimir. I’m incredibly excited to be returning to the American Home, now as a teacher rather than a student!

Kiana Nedele, преподаватель английского языка

Wellesley College

Hello! I have lived just outside Boston for most of my life. I went to Wellesley College, where I studied international relations, history, and Russian. I also played the cello in the college orchestra, chamber music group, and in a jazz group. I was able to study abroad in Moscow twice, as well as spend a summer there working as an intern. I have always loved history, and ever since I began studying Russian in college, I have been fascinated by Russian history as well as the history of Russian-U.S. relations. I’m very excited to have the chance to live in Vladimir and get to know more people and more about daily life in Russia outside of politics. I love to read, especially history and science fiction, as well as exploring  museums and trying (and trying to cook) new foods. I look forward to teaching and getting to know my students and fellow teachers!

Shawn Conroy, преподаватель английского языка

Rutgers University-Newark

My name is Shawn Conroy. I am a master’s student in history looking to get my PhD in Soviet/Russian history someday. Outside of school, I like to go running and hiking in my small rural hometown in New Jersey. I also like to sing in choir.

I believe that learning another language can open many doors for students willing to immerse themselves in the process. I look forward to encouraging their curiosity for knowledge and learning a lot from them too!

Kurtis Pierret, преподаватель английского языка

Lewis and Clark College

I grew up in a small town in Minnesota about an hour south of the Twin Cities. After a successful high school career playing in band, captaining the tennis team, and building a robot, I attended Lewis and Clark College. Lewis and Clark is located in Portland, Oregon, the heart of the Pacific Northwest and hipster culture. At Lewis and Clark, I studied Rhetoric and Media Studies with some Russian on the side. I choose to use my semester abroad to go to Tanzania instead of Russia, a decision my Russian language ability does not thank me for.  During college, I became embedded in the outdoor program and fell in love with outdoor pursuits, especially Whitewater Rafting. This passion has lead me to four summers guiding rafting trips all over Oregon. This past winter I was in Australia exploring the land down under, making new friends, and doing some work when I ran out of money. I am excited to continue my travels around the world, learn more Russian, and meet new people.

Taylor Wilson, преподаватель английского языка

Wilson, Taylor Victoria, Vanderbilt University

Hello! My name is Taylor Wilson. I am originally from Owensboro, Kentucky, but I also grew up in Canton, Georgia. I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where I majored in Russian and studied Spanish and Portuguese. I am a lover of literature and languages, and I am excited to share this passion with my students in Vladimir. My previous experiences in Russia include a week-long trip to Vladimir in 2014 and a semester in St. Petersburg in 2016. I am excited to return to Russia and to join the other English teachers!

Robert Parent, преподаватель английского языка

Parent, Robert Louis, University of Rochester

Hey y’all! My name is Robert and I’m from Houston, the largest city in Texas. Although I was born and raised in Houston I attended boarding school in the New England state of Vermont. I discovered in high school that I had a passion for learning languages and decided to pursue this interest with a major in Russian at the University of Rochester. I’ve studied abroad in Russia twice, both times in St. Petersburg, and deeply enjoyed the time that I spent there. While in St. Petersburg I volunteered to teach at a local English school and realized that, despite having never thought about it before, I really liked teaching. When I’m not reading or studying a foreign language, I enjoy traveling, visiting museums, and embarking on adventures to learn more about other cultures. I love food, and I’m always trying to find good places to eat. One of my favorite things to do is simply relax at a cafe for an hour and chat about life with a friend. I’m very happy to have the opportunity to teach in Vladimir and to get acquainted with the city.
